Abstract

By heating the specimen at a specific temperature for a predetermined amount of time, heat treatment is a procedure to give metals specific mechanical properties. The goal of this research is to design and produce an electric furnace with a maximum temperature of 550 oC for the heat treatment of aluminum. A modified technique is used to design the furnace, with the heat treatment furnace for steel serving as the changed object. Changes are made to the furnace's size (dimensions), heater type, mortar refractory type, extra heating system components, and extra wall components. Dimensions of the furnace: 500 mm (w), 350 mm (l), and 360 mm (h). The heating chamber measures 420 mm (w), 150 mm (l), and 150 mm (h). Refractory stone C1, a ceramic fiber blanket, a plate, and Air Setting Mortar TS 140 are used in the wall material. Nickel wire, Type K Thermocouple, and Thermocontrol REX C100 are all components of the heating system. Two heat treatment experiments—(i) homogenizing and (ii) aging treatment—were conducted to evaluate the operation and performance of the furnace. The two heat treatment trials' findings demonstrate that the furnace is operating appropriately. Keywords: Furnace; heat treatment; heating systems; nickel wire; refractory.
