Abstract
Nephthea sp. is a soft coral as a component of coral reef ecosystems which has an ecological function and is known to produce secondary metabolites. Marine organisms that produce secondary metabolites have the potential to be used as marine natural products (MNP). MNP is a raw material for drugs that comes from the sea such as animals, plants, and algae. Nephthea sp. from Pramuka Island has never been tested for antioxidant activity and identification of se condary metabolites. The aim of this study was to q ualitatively identify secondary metabolites and test antioxidants on Nephthea sp. successfully transplanted. The Nephthea sp. samples from Pramuka Island, Seribu Islands National Park (TNKpS). The macerati on method for sample extraction using 70% ethanol with a ratio of 1:4 (w/v). Identification of secondary metabolites was carried out qualitatively to identify alkaloids, saponins, steroids, flavonoids, and tannins. The antioxidant activity test used DPPH ( 2,2 diphenyl 1 1 picrylhydrazyl) with five series o f sample concentrations (10, 50, 100, 150, and 200 ppm). Three secondary metabolites were successfully identified qualitatively from Nephthea sp. namely alkaloids, saponins and steroids. The antioxidant ac tivity found from each concentration of Nephthea sp. (inhibitory 34.6% 75.8%). Samples with a concentration of 100 ppm produce an inhibitory of 61.01%. Thus, Nephthea sp. is proven to contain secondary metabolites and has strong antioxidant activity. Key word s antioxidants , nephthea sp., secondary metabolite PENDAHULUAN
